Geringer Art Services Offered
We Buy Art
We purchase a wide variety of paintings, dating from the mid 15th century to the mid 20th century. Please send photos of an artwork and we will let you know if we are interested in purchasing it. If we are interested in purchasing a painting we will offer a price that is competitive with auction value. If we are not interested in purchasing a particular painting we will lead you in the direction of an individual or gallery that may be interested.
Research
We enjoy researching artists, their paintings and providing our clients with provenance. Feel free to contact us with photos of an artwork and we will provide you with information about the artist and their biography.
Starting Or Adding To A Collection
We will be pleased to assist you in purchasing your first painting, additional paintings or managing your current collection. We always tell our customers to “buy with your eye” or buy what you like. It is important to enjoy the artwork that you purchase! Yet, it is also important to know that you are paying a fair price and buying something that is in good condition. We can assist you with this decision.
Purchasing Assistance
If you are purchasing an artwork that is very expensive, we can help you to negotiate a fair price or assist you in judging quality, condition, and authenticity. Condition and authenticity are very important and should not be taken lightly. It’s like buying a house that has unforeseen problems – we can judge the condition of a painting within minutes (if seen in person) to let you know if the purchase price is reasonable.
We can also judge authenticity. Purchasing a valuable painting and being able to judge its authenticity takes many years of experience – please do not hesitate to contact us about this.
Fair Market Value Appraisals
Send us photos, dimensions and your most accurate description of condition, and we will estimate what it would bring at auction or within a fair-market-value venue. We do not speculate on insurance values. If you require an insurance value for an artwork we can refer you to a licensed individual who will assist you.
Condition Reports
Upon physical inspection we can give you an accurate depiction of a painting’s condition. Condition reports include the following: need for repair or cleaning, previous repairs or cleaning, over cleaning (“skinning to paint”) and more. Remember this… condition of an artwork is of utmost importance – do not purchase a painting without knowing the condition of it first!
For quick but less accurate results you can email us photos of your painting and we will judge the condition from photos. This should not be considered 100% accurate but we will do our best to form a close-to-accurate opinion.
